At the top of Dales gorge, beyond Fortescue falls, along a trails that takes you past nesting fruit bats and ancient Paperbark trees, is a place known as Fern pool. As you look out over this oasis in the scorching heat of the Pilbara, you’ll see a rocky cliff that spans the gap between the gorge walls. If you swim up to the waterfall that flows over this cliff wall, you’ll find a magical space where the water undercuts the rock during the wet season and have created a cavern where you can rest.

True to it’s name, ferns abound in this water rich environment while rock fig roots snake along the rocks in their never ending quest for water.
