A living fossil in Karijini National Park, these fascinating trees only survive thanks to the substantial underground aquifers that feed the gorges found here. They’re known as Rock Figs as they often send their roots deep into the walls of the gorge exploiting cracks and weaknesses in the rock layers in search of water.
I found myself captivated with how the twisting trunk mirrored the exposed quartz crystal in the wall of the gorge.
